We were walking on a path in the woods by the house the other day when a fer-de-lance slithered out in front of us. The battle was intense, but ultimately, we prevailed:
I chose to employ the snake-dispatching method I'd seen Manuel use on a fer-de-lance a couple of weeks earlier, which is to take a largish stick and smash the snake's head.
And before any of you hippies go calling PETA on me, consider the following:
1.) The fer-de-lance is the most common venomous snake in Panama...probably because is reproduces in litters of around a hundred. As such it is responsible for around 95 percent of venomous bites here.
2.) This particular snakes was on a path where lots of li'l barefoot kids and grandmothers walk. Did you want them to get bitten, hippies?
Futhermore, a current Peace Corps nature guy told us that the only case of snakebite in recent Peace Corps-Panama history occurred when a volunteer was trying to protect a fer-de-lance from some Panamanians who (rightly) wanted to kill it.
We can promise you this: you won't ever have to worry about panablog putting itself in harm's way to protect a deadly snake.
Anyway, the scoreboard currently stands at panablog: 1, Deadly snakes: 0. So we're winning! Although, I suppose that if the score ended at panablog: 1000, Deadly snakes: 1, I'd still feel like we lost. So let's hope for the shutout.
Great job. It's always nice to work with a lead in games like this.
So is the snake small, or is that bendy straw really big? I'm hoping for the latter.

And I thought _my_ job was dangerous when a demented 98-year-old woman punched me in the balls last week while trying to climb out of bed. I suppose poisonous snakes trump that...
Incidentally, the Manuel method is not approved for treating dementia.

I am so glad that I do not reproduce in litters of around 100. My family would be subsisting on government cheese at that point, I'll tell you what.
If you guys save the slain fer-de-lance skins, you'll have some really killer (heh) snakeskin boots by the end of your PC tenure. Do it, in the name of quality footwear!

Why don't you put that in your pipe and smoke it, hippie?!
Is it reasonable to expect a continued tally on Panablog v. Snakes?
